Laurin - What the flock! I overheard my husband on the phone AGAIN talking to one of his friends, saying that he couldn't do this or that because he had to "babysit"! What's up with that!? "Babysit" his own kids? When I'M home all day with them, am I "babysitting" or am I just being a Mom?
What if I told you we couldn't meet for lunch because I had to "babysit"? You would say, "whose kids are you watching?" You would never assume that I would actually be talking about my own kids!
I thought this was only confined to the likes of my husband, but as I began to vent to my friends, I came to find out that all of their husbands say the exact same thing! The final straw was when my male real estate partner couldn't make a late appointment because he had to be home by 4 p.m. to--you guessed it--"babysit".
I have now reconciled myself to the fact that men have a built-in defect that prevents them from simply stating the following: "Hey Dude, I can't have beers with you tonight because I'm staying at home with the kids while my wife goes out with her friends...she really needs a break."
