Our high school didn't have prom, we called it Graduation. However, that doesn't disqualify me from participating in the Prom-A-Palooza going on at Blissfully Caffeinated and The Stiletto Mom. My hair can't hold a candle to Jen's, and I say that with love. Impressive, truly. Click over and check out all of the other prom posts.
Now, for the style notes. I am wearing a ruched-bodice, strapless, iridescent teal, taffeta gown. Those are white pumps I'm wearing and, could it be, white hose with peep toes?? Mercy. Look at my hair, courtesy of hot rollers and lacquer. I haven't spoken to my date in about 23 years, so I blurred out his face. He was in college at this time and wrote me the most amazing letters. Remember letters?
About 30 minutes after this photo was taken, I was wearing that red tie, as was the style at the time. It showed that you were on a "real" date, and that you weren't a victim of the "Let's go to the dance as friends" situation.
Here I am earlier that day. I think that was actually Coke at that point in the day, considering we were graduating in the church. That's my best friend, Stephanie. I just saw her on a trip to Mississippi a couple of weeks ago. I love that woman. She still lives in my hometown and is no small part of my desire to move back home at some point. Now, if I can only convince my husband that small town livin' is the life for him.
Now that I think about it, those white shoes were required for graduation because Stephanie has them, too. See the white hose? Did you notice my hair looks identical, hours apart? Keep in mind that this was Mississippi in May. Those are mad hair skills.
Here's me with Steph and Kem, another very good friend. She taught me the art of hot-rolling your hair. We were roommates at Mississippi State University for two years. Two very long years. We almost killed each other. She tried to teach me the art of fanatical house cleaning, but it never took.
I love that woman, too. I just went to her second wedding in my hometown, and she just moved back there about 23 years after graduation. Are you sensing a theme here?
And just for fun, here's me in college at a Kappa Alpha "Old South" party. This is the actual dress I wore in my hometown version of a debutante ball, the Natchez Pilgrimage Pageant Court. Who says you can't get another wearing out of a dress like this?
I may look ridiculous, but I was perfectly comfortable. After all, I was born and bred to wear hoopskirts and pantaloons. Here is the proof!
