Kelly, I'm on week two of the Civic Experience. You know I really wanted a Prius but in our area you have to wait for a phone call from a salesperson at Toyota whose manager is shouting "Sell! Sell! Sell!" in the background while you pay $2,000 over sticker by phone, sight unseen. I am Her Royal Highness of multiple impulsive and ill-advised car purchases, just ask my husband and all our neighbors, but buying the "it" car in that manner was too hard core for me.
So when the lease on my car ended we bought out our daughter's leased Civic because for the first time ever our family may not have lost our a** on a car. With the price of gas being what it is, turns out a 2005 2-door Civic is a hot commodity, and worth a lot more than the end of lease buyout.
I've had my share of soccer mom cars - stop laughing Tracy! - but I have to say I'm enjoying whipping around in the Civic. It's peppy, there are no blind spots, and I don't need a couple of guys with lighted sticks and earplugs to wave me in to parking spaces. Plus, the gas needle is still pegged hard on full since filling up the other day, and I've driven all over the place.
Last Wednesday Heather of Dooce.com posted about their 2000 Civic and how they have fluffed it a little to make driving around a tiny little car a bit more bearable. I could relate because I had decided I would not be happy unless I had the windows tinted and repaired the door dings and busted tail light our daughter states she had nothing to do with, under heavy questioning.
I really want nicer wheels but my husband says it isn't age-appropriate. Killjoy.
